The automatic climate control and other special peripherals are to the left of the steering wheel. Why? Because this is a Lincoln Mark V, dammit, and its a personal luxury car that’s 19.2 feet long. This is so malaise era that Jimmy Carter just had an orgasm the likes of which have never been seen before. Look this behemoth in the grille and tell me with a straight face that you wouldn’t want to drive one of these at least once.

I get that we call that stretch of years the “malaise” era in terms of performance, but as far as comfort... this is a very high point.

Although I’d almost be afraid that I’d fall asleep at the wheel with that soft suspension and sofa-like upholstery.

Agreed. They were exceptionally comfortable cars. Seats double padded like your living room recliner and nice velour. American luxury was all about comfort and they did it well.

Heat/etc. controls on the left of the column dates on *some* Lincolns from at least the 50s. In this picture, the dial that the steering wheel obscures is a “heater status” dial, that is moved by one of the knobs in the dash below.

Although for some reason the ‘60 has the heater on the right.

The feeling of discomfort I get is identifiable: 7.5 litres and 208 horsepower. What a sad era for engines.

Dammit man! Why you do dis? This is my favorite Lincoln ever, you're just making me lust after something I can't fit in my garage. I will make it my life's work to own one of these, triple black, leather seats, 460 under the hood.

That eliminates the problem of telling a passenger who messes with stuff:

“The driver adjusts the controls, keep your hands off, plebe”.

However, if they touch the radio, the drivers gonna have to pimp smack a fool.

Indeed.

I remember my first drive of one. It was about year old. What a luxurious chunk of iron. A quarter mile of hood to look over and beautiful to boot. That one has the landau roof delte option. Nice.

They’re wonderful cars. If I had one, the only things I’d change would be to throw a set of Vogues on there, and upgrade simply the speakers (no tacky sub). For the ultimate brougham experience.

There’s still a lot of nice ones in the SW. Most have been pimped to some degree. But a few stock ones are available.

*I would love to own one. But I already have 3 cars and a motorcycle.

*Ahhh, 1st world problems*

There are some really clean bone-stock models up in Canada.

There aren’t any left in the south. They’re all SLABs with six 15s, swangas, and Kandy and chrome everything.
